TechSpan Perspectives · October 2026 · Thought leadership
Start with fit
Choose standard SaaS when the process is common and the available features meet requirements. Consider low-code when the platform’s extensibility and operating model are appropriate.
When tailored software is justified
Specialised logic, non-standard integrations, control requirements and long-term economics can make custom engineering worth evaluating.
Compare the whole lifecycle
Include implementation, licensing, integration, security, maintenance, vendor dependency and the likely rate of process change.
Avoid false certainty
No delivery model is universally superior. The best option depends on the organisation and the specific workflow.
This article provides general engineering perspectives, not a claim of completed customer deployments or guaranteed outcomes.
