The Urban Traffic Management & Control (UTMC) Technical Standard was established by the UK Department of Transport so that a single modern control system can manage a variety of traffic control and parking systems in a town or city centre.

UTMC is compatible with a range of character based variable message signs that provide drivers with information about traffic conditions and parking availability.
