The MS3 range of VMS were initially developed for the Highways Agency and have since been provided to all road authorities within the UK. The MS3 signs allow the display of free text messages to road users consisting of two, three or four row characters per row to display more text-only messages.

These signs are available in a range of character sizes to ensure clarity and visibility for different road conditions, traffic speeds etc and are available with an integral matrix panel to show either two digit advisory speed limits, standard highways pictograms or short words eg “fog”. These additions are known as Enhanced Matrix Indicators (EMI).

The size of characters and number of characters depends on positioning and road speeds. The signs meet the requirements of EN 12966 (TR2136).

MS3 signs are normally mounted on a cantilever gantry structure, overhanging the highway to ensure maximum visibility.
